This is the third of five projects featured in the Seattle Goodwill SPEED.I.Y ad campaign. I had 5 minutes to run through the store and find as many items as possible to repurpose into fun DIY summer projects for summer parties and picnics. See the main post here with more info and check out the Seattle Goodwill DIY page for lots of projects and resources!

Basic Idea
GLASSES
There are always lots of glasses at Goodwill; these were 69 cents each. Look for tall glasses that are smooth on the sides. They don’t all have to the same style. The gold foil will unite them in a cohesive way.
Clean and dry glasses. If you’re concerned about the foil sticking to the glass, clean them with rubbing alcohol. I didn’t use any and they’ve held up well.
I used temporary gold foil that is made for a cutting machine, but it’s really just a roll of gold contact paper (and there are many colors available) that you can find at your local craft store. There is a grid on the back so you can measure and cut out shapes on your own—no expensive machine needed!
Draw and cut out your shapes on the back of the foil using the grid as a guide. Try triangles, stripes, rectangles, squares, keep it simple. Or, if you do have a cutting machine, go all out! Pineapples, anyone?? Flamingoes??
I measured triangles that were two inches at the base. Each square on the grid is one inch. I marked two inches across by two inches high. I then just added a dot at the top of each rectangle. To create a triangle, just draw lines at an angle down from that dot. Cut out.
Design your glass! Just peel and stick! I added two sets of three triangles on each glass. Now comes the hard part—designing your glass! I wanted something super simple, so I added two sets of three triangles on each glass. You’ve literally just created a sticker. Just peel and stick!! If you mess up, just peel off and adhere again.
MATCHING TRAY
You’ll find all types of serving trays at Goodwill; a metal tray works great for this project. I found one of those state trays that are round with a small lip. Another great tray to look for is a silver metal tray that has simple or ornate edges.
Spray an even coat of white primer on the front and back. Apply 2-3 coats of white spray paint. Seal with clear varnish.
Apply gold foil stickers in a coordinating design so they match the glasses!
I fell in love with this project!! It looks like it cost a lot more and no one can believe that it’s a DIY project. Check out the other fun foil colors that Cricut makes here! You could use their vinyl products too. So fun!
Check out the other projects I created with Goodwill finds: painted mason jar herb garden and marbled gold foil pots.

I love this Project! You did a great job!
Thank you!! It’s so easy and takes about 10 minutes to cut and adhere the gold foil—and I have a ton of it left over!
