I hadn’t planned on creating New Year’s cards, but at the same time I felt like working on something gold. And shiny. And dramatic. I saw these at Paper Source and I was smitten.
I was going to buy them, but the price! Holy smokes. Ten for $10.95. Granted, they’re gold foil, which is pricey. But I have a gold stamp pad and a pencil eraser. Boom. And I’m way happier with the way they turned out! I was able to experiment more and be more flexible and ended up creating four different designs with superfine white, fig, black, and gold (all colors from Paper Source).
Ahhhh, fig. I heart you. It’s such a rich, beautiful color. Big time crushing.
Materials:
- Paper in various sizes in fig, black, white, Paper Source
- Card size: 4 bar
- 4 bar envelopes in fig
- Twine (Mine was included in my gift tag pack I bought at Target–see below) or similar
- Gold mylar, available here
- Happy New Year stamp, Impress Cards and Crafts
- Colorbox Pigment Metallic Gold Inkpad, Michaels
- Black and white gift tags,Target
Additional Supplies:
- Scissors
- Paper cutter
- Wooden pencil with eraser
- 1/8″ hole punch
- Double-sided tape or similar adhesive
Basic Idea:
- The two major themes here are gift tags and layering for depth and texture. I cut 4-bar cards into gift tags by simply snipping off the top two corners and stamped on gold dots in a random pattern at the bottom.
- Then I worked with layers. There’s no rhyme or reason, I just played around until I found a setup I liked.
- Note: I glued each layer together so it’s a solid piece. It would have been too loosey goosey otherwise. Generally, I layered the bottom card, smaller black and white gift tag, fringed gold mylar, and finally a small banner with the stamped “Happy New Year.”
- I lined up all pieces and punched a hole in the top and then strung my twine through.
- I went crazy with fringe; I fringed the gold mylar as well as a fig layer on one design. It gave wonderful texture to it.
I’m sooooo happy with them! They’re dramatic and even a little sexy. Yes. Sexy stationery. They would make fantastic wine tags and even invitations. Can’t wait to send them out. Did you create New Year’s cards? Send me a link or photo!
