A friend recently told me that we teach what we need to learn most. It really resonated with me because many of the printables I shared over the summer have ideas and meanings that I need to learn, work towards, or (constantly) remind myself. This week’s printable is no different.
I often think about the past and feel regretful. About big and small things. Can you relate? Maybe something happened and you treated someone unkindly, or missed a deadline, had an argument, or someone was a real sh*t to you. You dwell on the incident, think about how you made a poor decision/wish you could take back what you said/fantasize about saying something really snarky back to that jerk, all to the point where it ruins your day and is a total time suck. The current day. The present. And yet the incident or event or decision happened yesterday, last week, even years ago. I struggle with this every day on different levels, and I’m pretty sure part of it is because I’m a worrier.
But it’s important to consider that whatever happened and can’t be changed or replayed. If you need a few minutes to ponder it, do it. Think about how you might be able to change some aspect now or in the future, especially if you didn’t handle a situation very well. And then move on and be in the present. Today’s printable encourages you to do just that. Don’t let the past ruin today and don’t waste time on something if it is no longer relevant. I will tell you it’s much harder to actually put this into practice. Especially if you might be in a recurring toxic environment, where crummy things happen every day. But do your best. And that best should be working on your present and planning for a better future!
