I’m always on the hunt for things that will make my apartment lighter, brighter, and cheerier. I love my apartment–it’s cute, vintage-y, and close to downtown, but it’s DARK. 🙁 I live in a 60s-style rental with sparse and generic overhead lighting and I only have two sides with windows. Living in Seattle makes my lighting woes even worse–did you know it’s overcast 62% of the year? Not cool, man. And my plants! My poor plants…but that’s another story.
My apartment is also on the smallish side–I don’t have room for side tables in the living room let alone room for miscellaneous tables to place lamps on. And I don’t even have any overhead lighting. But I did find something that saves the day and looks great in my tiny space. Floor lamps! Floor lamps are awesome: they take up very little space, light small nooks and dark corners with ease, and offer a sense of overhead lighting, especially when placed next a couch or chair–they’re great for you cozy book readers. Today I’m sharing my faves from Parrot Uncle, a massive online lighting store with tons of modern, sophisticated, and unique designs (for all types of lighting!), and also showing you a few ways to use them to get your creative juices flowing!
Floor Lamp Inspiration
If you’re sick of a gallery wall, think about using a lamp as a form of decoration–functional art! It can add a lot to the room. Think about the lines, color, shape, and materials used to find a unique addition to your room that matches your decor.
Floor Lamp Styles: Arc
Stylish arc floor lamps are perfect for placing beside a couch or reading chair. The arc allows light to reach farther and it also provides overhead light–perfect for reading and homework!
Floor Lamp Styles: Modern
Modern style floor lamps might mimic some of the style in the lamps above, with simple design and clean lines, but they lack the arc and tend to be straight. This makes them perfect for lighting a dark corner, squeezing in next to bed or couch, or filling up dead space near a wall or next to the TV.
Which one is your favorite? That bronze one with the marble base has my heart. Do you have other ideas for lighting small spaces and making your home cozy and bright? Let me know in the comments below! xo

Kristie! Your site is so cute! Such great ideas and I love your style.
I’m 2D artist and have a hard time decorating 3 dimensional space, so I love seeing some cute stuff I wouldn’t think to look for, like these lamps or all those craft office supplies you shared.
I live down in Olympia so local shopping selections are kind of lame. It’s good to know about these online places!
Also, I read in your bio how sad the Seattle weather makes you feel. Have you tried using happy bulbs in your lamps? They’re full spectrum and help improve mood! Like having a happy light through out your home! Also morning yoga or walks, taking 5HTP or Vitamin D internally. I’ve lived here my whole life so I’m getting pretty good at surviving winters. 😉 I bet you’re coming up with some good tricks too!
Excited for that notebook thingy I saw on IG!

Darcy!
Thanks so much for checking out my blog–it’s a work in progress–but I’m learning something new every day and that makes me happy.
Yay for Olympia!! Your art is beautiful–I adore all of your Society6 prints with animals–I can see their personalities! And I LOVE that you do pet portraiture! Super cool and fun and unique.
As for Seattle weather–I have a happy light contraption but I didn’t find it very effective, maybe I should try happy bulbs. I do take Vitamin D. I just looked up 5-HTP, I hadn’t heard of it before, but very intrigued. I’m hoping our long and hot summer (and fall!) will tide me over through November. Thanks so much for the suggestions!!
So glad we “met” over on Kristyn’s IG! It’s funny that we’re so close to each other!
