I’ve been scheming some Fall style DIYs and I’m so happy with the way they’re turning out. Have you seen the glitter boot tutorial? You must!! They’re so pretty and easy to make.
This project stems from a pretty t-shirt I saw at J.Crew. Cute and simple with a pretty feather pin attached. The price was a little surprising, even for them: $85.00. The handmade pin is removable, which is great but makes it the price even more surprising. I loved the shirt, but I immediately knew I could make my own for a fraction of the cost: $18.00. Yes! Using a simple Target t-shirt, pretty (and cheap) feathers from Joann, and a few things in your craft stash, you can create the same look! They take minutes to make a whole bunch. And you’ll have lots of leftovers for other pretty feather projects–to adorn holiday gifts, perhaps?! Yup.

DIY version:
The J.Crew version uses fishing lures and feathers, but using regular craft feathers works just as well.
Materials
- Feathers. Joann is where it’s at. Beautiful and affordable feathers in all kinds of styles and colors. I bought several packs–one neutral, one brown/spotty, and two super bright and colorful.
- Hot glue gun
- T-shirt. Look at this one from Target! $9.00.
- Pin backs
- Scrap Felt
- Scissors
Basic Idea
Using a variety of feathers, simply layer them into a pretty arrangement and adhere each layer together with your glue gun. Three or four layers seemed to work best for me. Have fun! Play around and try different color combos and types of feathers before gluing.
A few tips: feel free to cut the feathers to size or trim off frayed or bent pieces to make it work for your pin. If the bottom of the pin looks a little weird with feather “sticks” poking out, just cover them with small feather pieces, like I did in the above photo.
Cut squares of felt and adhere to the back of the feathers with hot glue.
Adhere pin back to the felt pieces with hot glue.
I went a little overboard and made a bunch of pins, but they’re so pretty and so easy to make, I couldn’t help myself.
These would a perfect craft for girl’s night out! I’d love to see them if you make them!! Find me on Facebook or Instagram. xo
